Center for injury Research

The establishment of Centre for Injury Research at the National Institute of Public Health (in 1999) has strengthened research of injuries and accidents in Denmark. On 1 January 1999 the Injury Register was relocated from the National Board of Health to the National Institute of Public Health, thus providing an opportunity for the Institute to establish the Centre for Injury Research. The Centre has the following main functions:

  • To conduct research on injuries and accidents, analysis and review within this field, and provide research based counselling and advice
  • To maintain and develop the Injury Register
  • To support the development of a national Injury Register
  • To collect and disseminate information on injuries and accidents.

The organisation of the Centre for Injury Research includes a ‘Users’ board’ comprising representatives of a wide range of interested parties within the field of injuries and accidents. The purpose of this forum is to provide inspiration, guidance and generally act as fermenter of new ideas regarding the optimal use of the Injury Register for monitoring and prevention purposes.

Prevention practitioners in the field of injuries and accidents are a widely dispersed group, often without mutual collaboration and contacts. Therefore, the Centre publishes a Newsletter on Injury Research & Prevention to improve communication and dissemination of information among all interested parties. The Newsletter is published three times annually.

The Center for Injury Research employs the following staff:

Bjarne Laursen, Senior Researcher, M.Sc., Ph.D.

Hanne Møller, Assistant Research Programme Director, Communication officer, MA Communication

Knud Juel, Research Programme Director, Senior Researcher, Cand.Stat., PhD
