Contents of the Injury Register

The Injury Register provides detailed information on external causes of injuries and on the injuries treated in emergency departments. The following shows whether or not certain information is available in the Register.

Included

  • Place – where did the accident occur?
  • Mechanism of injury – how was the injury sustained? (E.g. struck, hit, cut, jammed, etc.)
  • Activity of the victim at time of injury – during gainful employment, school education, play, etc.?
  • Transport accidents – mode of transport for victim, counterpart, passenger position, etc.?
  • Occupational accidents – what type of industry was the victim employed in, etc.?
  • Sports accidents – what type of sports was the victim engaged in?
  • Products involved in accidents and injuries
  • Description of injuries (type of injury and body part affected)
  • Treatment and referral – e.g. admission of patient, referral to general practitioner, or treatment concluded in the emergency department, etc.

 

Excluded

  • Victims of accidents seeking treatment outside hospitals, i.e. at general practitioner, dentist, physiotherapist, chiropractor, etc.
  • Fatal accidents
  • Societal costs of injuries
  • Disabilities as short- or long-term consequences of injuries.
